There are only 22 days to go until the OPC 2013 starts at the Educatorio della Provvidenza in the heart of Turin's Crocetto district. The majority of the competition's 29 competitors will land in Turin the night before, in order to be ready for their Round 1 performances, taking place over Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th October.

On Monday 7th October from 10am, competitors will begin to arrive at the Educatorio, where they will be met by the OPC team, have their photo taken and be ushered into the practice room to warm up before their first performance of the competition, lasting approximately 15 mins and consisting of a Chopin etude, a sonata by Soler or Scarlatti or a prelude and fugue by Bach, followed by a first movement or fast movement of a classical sonata by Mozart, Beethoven or Haydn. By the end of 8th October, judges Daniela Manusardi and Coady Green must have a clear view of the pianists to be selected from each category to continue to Round 2.

In Round 2, which will start at 10am on Wednesday 9th October, competitors will play a 25 mins performance to include at least one major Romantic-era work by Liszt, Brahams, Mendelssohn, Chopin or Schumann, and one or several pieces of any Contemporary music, which may include the competitor's own compositions. At the end of the day, Daniela and Coady have the difficult task of selecting the most deserving pianists from each category to proceed to the final.

The chosen finalists, comprising the most successful pianists from each of the OPC's category's, will have two full days to practice, rest and gather their energy before their 35 minute final round performance of own choice music. The judging panel for the final round will grow from two to four, with the arrival of guest judge Mattia Ometto, from Padova, along with Tina Zuchellini, from La Spezia, who will act as this year's final round jury chairperson possessing a casting vote.

The Educatorio della Provvidenza has kindly reserved its availability for the Open Piano Competition's final round, which will commence at c. 2.30-3pm on Saturday 12th October (doors opening around 2.15pm), with a short interval mid-way through.

The public is invited to attend both the semi-final and final rounds of the OPC in the Educatorio's Orpheus Auditorium. Please reserve your tickets for the final round here. Entrance is free, with the option of providing a small donation.

We look forward to seeing you next month for a week of beautiful piano music!
